BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24. The Bulgarian ELBAT company began receiving Azerbaijani gas as part of the initiation of its supply to several industrial facilities in Bulgaria last week, a source in the company told Trend.

"Guaranteed access to Azerbaijani gas is an important factor in boosting the efficiency of our value chain and optimizing our business," the source said without specifying further details.

Last week, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), in agreement with Bulgarian M-Gaz and Asarel Medet companies (agreements reached in May 2024), operating in the European gas market, started gas supplies for several industrial companies in Bulgaria.

"ELBAT is one of the largest enterprises in Europe for processing various types of waste containing lead as well as renovating lead-acid batteries.

"We help eliminate the environmental impacts of several anthropogenic factors through technological solutions. Our technology allows us to recycle every part of the battery and extend the lifespan of car batteries by several years," the source emphasized.

To note, Bulgaria has been purchasing Azerbaijani gas for its population since 2021.

Overall, Azerbaijani gas supplies to Bulgaria will peak at 1.5 billion cubic meters per year in 2024, with part of these volumes to be sold at the Balkan Gas Hub.
