Oil&Gas Materials 25 October 2006 14:02 (UTC +04:00)

Azneft Production Association on Oil and Gas Production of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) intends to carry out a 3-D seismic survey in November-December in the Shallow-Water Gunashli field, where the company produces hydrocarbons at its own expense.

A SOCAR Senior official stated that the work will be carried out jointly by the Caspian Geophysical joint venture and the Geology & Geophysical Department of SOCAR.

According to SOCAR representatives, oil reserves were discovered during the drilling of the wells on the northern part of the Shallow Water Gunashli field. However, the boundaries with the waters have not been determined yet. Exploration is necessary due to ongoing drilling work on new bed suites of the field.

A specialized vessel Markab, belonging to the Dutch Fugro, is also expected to be involved in this work.

SOCAR also intends to carry out a seismic survey in its fields Bulla and Bahar. The implementation of the work is necessary to assess how much the fields have been developed and determine the points of the prospective drilling, etc.

Caspian Geophysical JSC was established by SOCAR in 1994. The Company has carried out seismic exploration on the fields Azeri-Chiragh-Gunashli, Shakhdaniz, Garabagh, Ashrafi, etc. The vessels Baki and Gilavar were engaged in these projects.
