French government funds Uzbek project on safe management of medical waste

The European Union and the French Development Agency (AFD) have provided funding for the project on safe management of medical waste in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand region, Trend referring to gazeta.uz.

The European Union and AFD approved funding of 1.5 million euros for the project. The funding was received by Samarkand waste management operator Maroqand Obod State Enterprise.

The project aims to improve the management of medical waste in Samarkand as well as the safety of workers involved in collection and disposal of solid waste in the city.

The plan was developed with the assistance of French Seureca Veolia consulting company, which provides technical assistance to Maroqand Obod within the framework of Modernization of integrated solid waste management in Samarkand city project, jointly financed by the Government of Uzbekistan, AFD and EU.

French Development Agency is a bilateral development finance institution established in 1941 that works on behalf of the French government.
