Visa launching projects in Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.29

By Zeyni Jafarov - Trend:

The most important projects for Visa are those aimed at developing the application of contactless payments, Visa's Regional Manager for the Caucasus region, Kristina Dorosh told Trend.

“First of all, this is transport and tokenization, as well as the development of projects for mobile payments,” Dorosh added.

“QR payments remain one of the most promising areas. This convenient and secure technology allows quick cashless transactions using a mobile app,” the regional manager said.

“QR codes can be embedded in any payment tool that is used to make and receive payments for goods and services. Earlier, Visa launched the first payment solution in Azerbaijan based on Visa QR payments in the Lukoil gas station network together with the E-PUL and SOCAR payment services,” said Dorosh.

“In view of developing the infrastructure for accepting contactless payments, Visa Tap to Phone technology is promising, which makes it easy to turn an Android smartphone with an NFC module into a POS terminal without additional equipment. Visa Tap to Phone greatly simplifies and speeds up the operations of enterprises, promotes the expansion of the contactless payment acceptance network, and reduces the cost of connecting to acquiring services,” the manager added.

“Tests and the first full-fledged programs with Visa Tap to Phone were launched in four countries of the post-Soviet region - Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia. In Azerbaijan, the interest in this technology is very great and in this direction, active work is underway with partners to offer the market Visa Tap to Phone commercial solutions,” the manager noted.

“Currently, the users mainly want the payments to be convenient, safe, and speedy. Contactless payments highly meet these requirements,” Dorosh added.
