BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 25

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Economic problems can be solved, if ample opportunities are given to the private sector in Iran, Iranian expert on energy issues Mehrdad Emadi told Trend.

The expert emphasized that lack of balance in Iran's economy and foreign trade hinder the private sector to operate freely.

Emadi added that the increasing competitiveness and strengthening control mechanisms can create conditions for operating of the private sector.

The economist noted that tax evasion by large companies exacerbates Iran's economic problems.

"So, despite, these companies have annual revenues of $11 billion, they only pay about $6 million worth of taxes," he said.

The companies in Iran have to pay 15-35 percent tax based on their revenue growth, annually.

According to the statistics of Iranian National Tax Administration (INTA), a total of 302 trillion rials (about $7 billion) worth of taxes were paid in Iran during the first six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2020).
