Azerbaijan sees great increase in turnover of payment cards in 2020

The turnover on debit and credit cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 3.2 billion manat ($1.9 billion) as of December 2020, which is by 14.2 percent more compared to December 2019, Trend reports citing the statistics report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

In accordance with the report, the total number of transactions with payment cards during the mentioned period reached 23.9 million, an increase of 30 percent for the year, including 2.7 million transactions worth 129 million manat ($75.9 million) outside the country.

Some 20.4 million transactions via debit cards worth 2.9 million manat ($1.7 million) were conducted both within the country and abroad, of which 8.2 million transactions worth 2.1 billion manat ($1.2 billion) were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and through POS terminals - 3.9 million transactions worth 365 million manat ($214.7 million), said the report.

At the same time, bank customers carried out 3.5 million transactions on credit cards (both within the country and abroad) with a total value of 202 million manat ($118.8 million). Some 281,000 transactions worth 51 million manat ($30 million) were carried out using ATMs inside the country, 1.6 million transactions worth 80 million manat ($47 million) - using POS terminals inside the country.

Some 226.4 million transactions on debit and credit cards worth 28.9 billion manat ($17 billion) were conducted through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan in 2020, which is by 24.6 percent more than in 2019.
