UAE to fund construction of perinatal hospital in Uzbekistan

A perinatal hospital will be built in Nukus of Karakalpakstan Republic in Uzbekistan at the expense of grant funds from the Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan Charitable Foundation (UAE), Trend reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan (MIFT).

On May 26, an Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan on attracting technical assistance from the Emirati Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan charitable foundation in the implementation of social projects in Uzbekistan was signed at the MIFT in the format of a videoconference.

On the Uzbek side, the agreement was signed by the Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sh.Vafaev, and on the Emirate side - by Deputy Minister of Finance Yunis Haji al-Khuri.

The total cost of the project amounts to $27 million and the funding is fully funded by grant funds from the Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan Foundation.

It is reported that the new hospital, designed for 100 patients, unique in design and technical equipment, will include prenatal and maternity wards, wards for mothers and newborns, intensive care units for mothers and children, a surgical department, a hospital, outpatient and consultative and diagnostic departments and laboratories.

Currently, construction work has already begun at the facility, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. The new medical institution, equipped with the most modern equipment, will significantly improve the quality of medical services provided to the population of the Aral Sea region.
