BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 9

By Zeyni Jafarov - Trend:

The volume of securities turnover at par in the capital market of Azerbaijan grew as of early June 2021, Trend reports referring to the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the report, this indicator reached 2.8 billion manat ($1.6 billion), up by 39.6 percent compared to the same period of 2020. Of these, 2.28 billion manat ($1.34 billion) fell on government bonds, and 520 million manat ($305.8 million) - on the notes of the CBA.

The share of government bonds in the securities market by the beginning of June amounted to 81.4 percent, and the CBA notes – 18.6 percent.

Starting from 2021, the auctions for the placement of Central Bank notes are mainly used to regulate liquidity. The main reason why auctions on notes are preferable to deposit auctions is the further development of the interbank money market.

Short-term notes are a monetary policy tool for regulating the money supply in circulation. Notes can only be purchased by banks.
