MegaFon considers prospects of development of project of construction of cross-border fiber transition in direction to Azerbaijan

Russian mobile operator MegaFon considers the prospects of development of the project construction of cross-border fiber transition in the direction to Azerbaijan, Anna Goryainova, Director of Legal Affairs "MegaFon ", Synterra CJSC Deputy General Director for Corporate Management told Trend.

Russian mobile operator MegaFon considers the prospects of development of the project construction of cross-border fiber transition in the direction to Azerbaijan, Anna Goryainova, Director of Legal Affairs "MegaFon ", Synterra CJSC Deputy General Director for Corporate Management told Trend.

She said this issue is under discussion in the process of development of strategy of "MegaFon" and the Synterra Group of Companies.

At present, the Azerbaijani side is in the waiting position. A positive solution will define further development of this project.

Russian Synterra and Azerbaijani Azertelekom hold 50 percent share of Azerbaijani-Russian venture C-Ring Telecom. The documents were signed in Baku in 2009.

C-Ring Telecom has completed the construction of the Azerbaijani segment of the fiber-optic cable line connecting the telecommunications infrastructure of the national operators of Azerbaijan and Russia. Operator operates to test the main line, on the basis of which an international line of communication with the initial capacity of 10 Gbps will be created.

The Russian segment of the infrastructure is also ready to complete the project. Spokesman for the group of companies Synterra Ekaterina Andreeva said that "Synterra" laid more than 180 kilometers of primary and backup fiber-optic communication lines from the site of its national backbone network in Makhachkala to enter the border area from the Russian side.

Realization of the project will expand the geographic presence of operators on the markets of Azerbaijan and Russia, as well as neighboring countries of the Caspian region.

C-Ring Telecom will use resources and capabilities of Azertelecom's and Synterra's infrastructures in its projects on the territory of Azerbaijan and Russia. Azerbaijani business and the public will have a full access to a range of communication services offered by "Synterra", including services of international / long distance, rental of main channel services based on network IP MPLS, Internet access, network access data centers and distributed call-center.

The access to basic telecommunications services (voice, internet access) will be provided by Azertelecom, and the development of innovative services (data centers, call-center, GRID-technology, content services) - C-Ring Telecom.
