The world software market vendors are interested in software market of Azerbaijan, AZEL president Igor Yakovenko told Trend.
He said that today Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and Symantec are included in the top four companies on sales volume in the software market of Azerbaijan.
"In general, today's software market in Azerbaijan is improving. This is a prospective segment of the IT market. I think that we will see all the world leaders of software on the local market for the next 2-3 years," he said.
He said that today one of the major trends in the software market of Azerbaijan is to strengthen the fight against illegal software. It was supported in AZEL. The fight against illegal software intensified in the first half of this year.
Based on an annual report compiled by the Business Software Alliance (BSA) on the basis of International Data Corporation (IDC) research for 2009, software piracy in Azerbaijan has fallen to 88 percent.
The study on piracy covered all categories of software.
Azerbaijan ranks eighth in the BSA report. It ranked sixth in the previous report.
Azerbaijan has recorded a sustainable improvement of pirated software use in recent years. If the piracy rate was 94 percent in 2006, the figure fell to 92 percent in 2007, 90 percent in 2008 and 88 percent in 2009.
BSA analysis shows that an annual decline of piracy in Azerbaijan on average 2 percent has been observed over the last four years.
