Russia solves technical issues on laying fiber-optic backbone with Azerbaijan

Russia has resolved technical issues in the project to lay a fiber-optic backbone connecting its national operators' telecommunications infrastructures with Azerbaijan, Center of International Relations and Calculations under the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry Director Jalil Jafarov told Trend.

Jafarov said the work will be completed soon.

"The Azerbaijani segment is fully operational now," he said. "We are waiting for similar actions by the Russian side."

The project, envisaging the creation of an international link with an initial capacity of 10 Gbps, is realized by Megaphone and Azertelekom.

According to the Russian side, the construction of the Russian segment is at the final stage. The agreement on its launch will be signed soon.

The project's will realization expand across the Caspian region.

Synterra and Azertelekom hold 50 percent of the Azerbaijani-Russian venture C-Ring Telecom. The documents were signed in Baku in 2009.
