Internet is one of the main insurer of human rights, Google Vice President Vinton G. Cerf believes.
"Freedom of expression, freedom of access to information... is an absolutely human right and the internet is most powerful enablers of those rights. I believe it is sufficient to recognize this fact... to continue extension of the internet and its use," Cerf said at the press conference in Baku on Thursday.
According to Google Vice President, like in any other infrastructure, there are some abuses in the internet.
"Now we are talking about terrorism, using internet by terrorists. This is an issue that comes up more than once. This is an infrastructure. And we know that all kinds of infrastructure can be abused. You do not turn off the infrastructure because someone can abuse it, you protect the infrastructure," Cerf said.
According Cerf, the work on ensuring internet safety and preventing internet abuses should be carrying on.
"To shut up the internet because it can be used by terrorists does not make any sense," Cerf said.
