Serious reforms underway in Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications (UPDATE)

Acting Minister of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan Ramin Guluzade has held a meeting in Baku Telephone Communications production association.

"Serious reforms are underway in Azerbaijan's Ministry of Communications and High Technologies and they will continue until completely eliminating the shortcomings in the ministry," Guluzade told Trend Dec.18.

Personnel changes and reforms carried out in the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies in recent times are in the spotlight. During the preliminary investigation carried out by the Prosecutor General's Office, such serious shortcomings as bribery, corruption, misappropriation of state property, power abuse and financial embezzlement were revealed in the ministry.

Aside from minister Ali Abbasov, heads of several structural divisions of the ministry were dismissed from their posts.

Visiting the main office of Baku Telephone Communications production association, acting Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ramin Guluzade became familiar with its activities and gave relevant instructions on eliminating the shortcomings revealed in its work.

Earlier, on Dec.17, an unexpected raid was carried out by the ministry in Azerpocht LLC. In order to examine the company's activities, the acting minister visited Azerpocht during working hours and carried out inspection.

Guluzade told Trend that currently, a comprehensive examination is underway in all departments of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies.

"Structural reforms are underway in the ministry," he said, adding that during these reforms, incompetent employees and those with oversights in their work will be dismissed and replaced with a new staff.

Guluzade added that relevant instructions have been given to various departments of the ministry in the light of ongoing structural changes.

"Each employee of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies should serve the Azerbaijani citizens and the country's president," he added.
