Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 25

By Huseyn Veliyev - Trend:

A national strategy for e-commerce will be developed in Azerbaijan, Azer Bayramov, the Deputy Executive Director of the State Fund for the Development of Information Technologies under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan, told Trend Sept. 25.

Bayramov noted that the work on this will start in 2019 and will be carried out jointly with the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

"A working group will be created and foreign experts will be involved. UNCTAD is a body of the UN General Assembly dealing with trade development. This agency assesses the readiness of underdeveloped countries for e-commerce and assists developing countries in preparation of e-commerce strategies," Bayramov said.

Bayramov said Azerbaijan is interested in preparing its own national e-commerce strategy.

"The e-commerce is developing quite dynamically in the world. Today, the total volume of e-commerce in the world is about $25 trillion. Azerbaijan does not make sufficient use of the potential of the e-commerce market, and in order to use this potential it is necessary to know what mechanisms should be used and what changes should be made in the legislation," Bayramov said.
