VEON telecommunications holding to co-op with Uzbekistan

VEON telecommunications holding is ready to help Uzbekistan with implementation of digitalization, Trend reports citing the the Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan.

A delegation of VEON telecommunications holding (Beeline in Uzbekistan) has recently visited Uzbekistan. The company's new management includes chief executive director Kaan Terzioglu and advisor on interaction with state bodies Boris Tadic (former president of Serbia).

Minister for Development of Information Technologies and Communications Shukhrat Sadikov, greeting the guests, noted that Uzbekistan has created wide opportunities for further development of telecommunication services market, attraction of investments, in particular, for effective activity of mobile communication companies.

Terzioglu noted that Veon operates in Uzbekistan under Beeline brand and since 2006 the company has invested over a $1 billion in Uzbekistan.

"I am incredibly happy to see a favorable investment climate created by the government, which gives us, foreign investors, confidence in the implementation of our plans in the future," Terzioglu said. "This year we are planning to invest about $50 million in the infrastructure of the company and I hope that this will be a good contribution to the development of the industry, as digitalization for Uzbekistan is becoming more and more real in terms of its implementation. And we are glad that we will be part of this transformation".

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the introduction of information technologies, the latest mobile technologies and further development of cooperation.

The sides expressed readiness to mobilize all efforts to develop bilateral cooperation in the field of information technologies.

Promising directions of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting, including expansion of comprehensive cooperation in ICT issues and other important issues.
