Uzbekistan expanding its local internet infrastructure

About 490,000 broadband internet ports have been installed in Uzbekistan in the first half of 2020, bringing the total number of ports in the country to 2.5 million, Trend reports citing the Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications Uzbekistan.

The Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan plans to install at least 800,000 broadband internet ports and to lay 12,000 kilometers of fiber optic communication lines in 2020 in accordance with the Action Strategy on five priority development directions of Uzbekistan for the period from 2017 through 2021.

To date, 1,375 new base stations have been installed and put into operation throughout the country. By upgrading the base stations located in 1,483 institutions, it has become possible to provide broadband internet services.

Moreover, the Ministry plans to install some 2,200 3G /4G base stations during 2020.

Within the framework of telecommunication network development projects, 7,800 km of fiber-optic communication lines were laid, and their total length exceeded 44,400 kilometers.
