To date, over 31,700 base stations of mobile communications have been installed and put into operation throughout Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan.
According to the ministry, comprehensive work is being carried out within the framework of the development of fiber-optic networks throughout the country. Thus, if in 2018 the total length of fiber-optic networks amounted to 26,600 kilometers, then by 2020 this figure was increased to 72,000 kilometers.
“In addition, it is planned to bring this figure to 118,600 kilometers by the end of this year,” the ministry noted.
The ministry also reported that one million ports of broadband Internet access have been installed, bringing their total number to three million. By the end of 2021, it is planned to bring this figure to 3.9 million units.
Furthermore, as a result of the modernization of existing production facilities, the total throughput of the international data transmission network was increased 10 times and brought up to 1,200 gigabits per second. The transmission capacity of backbone telecommunications has been doubled in the regions, and fourfold in the districts.
The development of telecommunications infrastructure, according to the ministry, also requires an adequate capacity for storing volumes of data. “To this end, in 2020, a Data Processing Center with a capacity of 5 Petabytes was commissioned,” the ministry said.
Also, it is reported that the level of mobile communication coverage of settlements in Uzbekistan reached 98 percent. It is noted that this year it is planned to increase the total number of stations to 33,700, and thereby bring the level of mobile coverage to 99 percent.
In addition, recently, 5,641 base stations of mobile communication have been installed and put into operation, and their total number has been brought to 31,740.
