BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 16
By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:
Azerbaijan has demonstrated high growth rates in the development of mobile infrastructure in the region over the past five years, Tair Ismayilov, Strategic Engagement Director of the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSMA Association) in Russia and the CIS, told Trend.
The GSMA is a global industry association uniting over 750 mobile operators in 218 countries.
According to Ismayilov, the Mobile Connectivity Index under the GSMA assesses the development of individual markets in terms of the availability of mobile services.
“The assessment is based on a number of factors, including infrastructure development, availability of services and mobile devices, and the availability of local content. In the CIS region, Azerbaijan occupies a position in the middle of the rating, lagging only behind Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Ukraine,” Ismayilov said.
The director noted that Azerbaijan has demonstrated high growth rates in the development of infrastructure in the region over the past five years.
He also noted that Azerbaijan has demonstrated high growth rates in the development of infrastructure in the region over the past five years.
“For example, 95 percent of the population has access to 3G and 4G networks. The 4G networks are developing rapidly, and construction is underway not only in cities but also in the countryside of Azerbaijan,” Ismayilov said.
According to the GSMA representative, the world observes a unification of standards with each new standard of mobile communications.
“If 3G networks in most countries of the world used Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA), in the US and South Korea - CDMA2000, in China they experimented with Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA), and in Japan - with FOMA, and in the case of 4G, unification around the world is already observed,” Ismayilov said.
“Azerbaijani operators have always developed the standards prevailing in the world - from GSM to LTE, right up to the recent 5G testing,” Ismayilov said.
The association representative also noted that Azerbaijani operators are actively participating in the GSMA roaming working groups, contributing to the unification of operational principles of interaction, the development of process manuals, and requirements for billing and settlement for future standards, as well as security recommendations.
