BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 2. Last week it became known about the implementation of Azerbaijan’s Aztelecom and Baktelecom LLC, subordinated to Azerbaijani Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, large-scale infrastructure projects for the organization of broadband Internet and other multimedia services based on the Strategic Roadmap, Trend reports.
An optical network based on Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology is being built, expired wires are being replaced with durable fiber optic lines and modern Optical Line Termination (OLT) equipment is being installed.
An optical infrastructure has already been created for the transition of 436,000 households to modern GPON technology and 200,000 apartments have been provided with broadband Internet services.
In addition, this week it became known that about 60 companies providing internet services operate in Azerbaijani market. Internet tariffs will be lower in those regions where the purchasing power is lower, and the costs will be covered by the funds of Aztelecom and Baktelecom LLC. State subsidies will be provided to maintain the capital balance of these companies.
It also became known that the national strategy of Azerbaijan in sphere of cybersecurity and information is being developed by a number of departments and organizations, including the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the State Security Service of Azerbaijan Republic and a number of other structures.
This document will include all issues related to cybersecurity, defining a long-term strategy and increasing the rating of Azerbaijan in the sphere of cybersecurity.
In addition, this week it became known that the GoldenPay payment system (hesab.az) plans to start issuing digital (debit and credit) cards - Hesab Card in 2022. This product will combine all the main functions of the usual credit and debit cards, and the main goal of this project is to stimulate the transition to cashless payments.
