BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 25. The speed of internet access in Uzbekistan increased 28 times from 2017 through 2022 and amounted to 1800 Gbit/s, Trend reports with reference to the Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research of Uzbekistan (IFMR).

During the reporting period, the cost of internet tariffs for providers decreased by 30 times, in particular from $90 in 2017 to $3 in 2022.

According to the analysis, the total length of fiber-optic communication lines has increased sevenfold, from 24,500 kilometers in 2017 through 170,000 kilometers in 2022, and the number of mobile base stations has increased almost 3 times, amounting to 54,000 last year.

Furthermore, during this period, the share of the country's population with internet access increased from 34.5 percent through 75 percent, and the share of subscribers of cellular mobile networks increased from 70 percent through 86 percent in 2017-2022, the IFMR report notes.

Meanwhile, further expansion of Uzbekistan's digital infrastructure will contribute to high-quality economic growth, improve business opportunities, as well as expand public access to services, education and employment.
