ITU initiatives boost telecommunications development in Turkmenistan (Exclusive)

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, December 20. International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has implemented several projects and programs to support the development of telecommunications in Turkmenistan, a source in the ITU told Trend.

The organization noted that in early November of this year, ITU held a training for the Turkmen side on the development of mobile communication networks.

ITU projects and programs in 2023, aimed at supporting the development of telecommunications and access to information technologies in Turkmenistan included ITU training on 'Launch of networks of mobile communication of the next generation (IMT-2020/5G)', which took place on 9-10 November 2023. The training was attended by over 500 specialists from the Agency for Transport and Communications of Turkmenistan, other interested ministries, and students from the Turkmen University of Telecommunications and Informatics," said the source.

The ITU stressed that representatives of Turkmenistan also took part in Interregional Cyber-drill for CIS and Arab States, which were also held in early October 2023 in the UAE, as part of the Regional Cybersecurity Week 2023.

Furthermore, the organization added that ITU also participated in national conferences in Turkmenistan, which presented global and regional trends and priorities, as well as ITU products, including the official opening of the Arkadag 'smart' city in mid-summer and the TurkmenTEL Conference in early November this year.

Meanwhile, at the end of November this year, Nurmyrat Rejepov, deputy chairman of the Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency (Turkmen Communication), said that the agency was ready to establish cooperation in attracting investments and implementing a number of projects, including the creation of a data center and factories for the production of fiber-optic cables and server equipment.
