Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Babayeva / The recent increase in prices for local telephone calls in Azerbaijan has not resulted in problems with the collection of payments, Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister, Ali Abbasov, reported on 9 July during the CeBitCiS exhibition.
"By cutting the tariffs for long-distance and international calls we are in line with international standards. As for the payments for local telephone calls, I do believe AZN 2 per month is adequate," the Minister said.
On 1 June new tariffs for telephone calls were introduced in Azerbaijan. They were announced by the Azerbaijan Tariff Council on 17 May. The monthly subscription fees for telephone calls over the country increased to AZN 2 from AZN 0.7. Instead, payments for long-distance calls were cut to AZN 0.07 from AZN 0.09 per minute.
The prices for international calls were cut as following:
- calls to the CIS and Baltic countries were cut from AZN 0.45 to AZN 0.36,
- to Iran, Turkey, Pakistan from AZN 0.54 to AZN 0.45,
- to the European countries from AZN 0.72 to AZN 0.54,
- to the United States and other countries from AZN 0.9 to AZN 0.54.
