In the summer of this year, direct flights to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, will be launched from Kazakhstan’s Petropavl airport, Trend reports referring to the Kazakh media.

"Petropavl airport together with SCAT Airlines and a local travel company have addressed the issue of opening a flight to Sharm El Sheikh for the period from July to September. I hope that we will be able to attract the border regions", said Vladimir Balakhontsev, the Chief of the Roads and Passenger Transport Department of the North Kazakhstan region.

Presently, flights to Astana, Almaty and Shymkent are carried out from the Petropavl airport. The airport Director Marat Khasenov noted that flights to Almaty are almost full, and many people fly to Shymkent, and flights to Astana have become more popular. It is expected that the flow of passengers will increase in the summer.

"It is necessary to increase the number of flights. The price is attractive and the aircraft occupancy is good. We need to strengthen this work. We are ready to transfer the airport under the management of companies, foreign investors," Governor of the region Kumar Aksakalov said.
