Iran's investments in tourism hit $12B

Iran has so far invested $12 billion in the tourism sector, Ali Asghar Mounesan, head of Iran Cultural Heritage, Handcraft and Tourism Organization, said at a meeting with the heads of foreign diplomatic missions during the 12th Tehran International Tourism Exhibition, Trend reports referring to Mehr News Agency.

Mounesan noted that 2,000 tourism projects are under implementation in Iran.

Underlining the increasing number of new targets in tourism, Mounesan emphasized that Iran has been focused on this sector over the past few years.

Mounesan added that 6 million foreign tourists visited Iran during the 9 months of the current Iranian calendar (started March 21, 2018).

"The figure is expected to reach 7 million by the end of the year," he said.

The global number of tourists was 1.32 billion people in 2017, while this number reached 1.4 billion in 2018, Mounesan added.

He said that this figure is expected to reach 2 billion by 2030.

The three-day 12th Tehran International Tourism Exhibition has begun in the Iranian capital on Feb. 12.
