Georgia takes new initiative to deliver goods to Azerbaijan, Central Asia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 17

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgian Railway JSC is ready to renew transit container transportation from the terminals of Batumi, Poti and Tbilisi to Azerbaijan and Central Asia at competitive rates as soon as possible, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

The Georgian Railway explains that the goal of the new initiative is to ensure the stability of freight traffic.

Reportedly, these services include unloading goods from terminal wagons to wagons or containers and delivering the freight to the destination point.

Tariffs for services will depend on the type and volume of goods.

According to the company, maximum security and minimum staff participation in the provision of services at reasonable prices will be ensured.

Meanwhile, due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the land and air communication between Georgia and Azerbaijan was suspended for 10 days from March 14. The restrictions do not apply to freight transport.

As of now, Georgia has 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19. In total, 1,008 people are under quarantine in Georgia, and 64 persons remain in hospitals under observation of doctors.

Amid the new coronavirus outbreak, Georgia has suspended direct flights with China, Iran and Italy, which are currently the largest centers of the outbreak.
