Cargo transshipment via Port of Baku surges

The volume of cargo transshipment in the Baku seaport increased in the first quarter of 2020, said Director General of the Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC (Port of Baku) Taleh Ziyadov.

He made the remark at the ASAN Global Web Forum online event on problems and solutions of international trade and logistics during a pandemic, Trend reports on May 16.

According to the director general, from January through March of this year, the volume of cargo transshipment in Port of Baku increased by 40 percent compared to the same period in 2019, from 1.03 million tons to over 1.7 million tons.

For the reporting period, the transshipment of wheeled vehicles increased by 22.4 percent to 11,399 TIR, dry cargo - by 4.4 times to 261,000 tons, containers - by 6.7 percent to 10,767 TEU (standard 20 foot container), compared to the same period in 2019.

The cargo handling potential of the Baku port within the first phase is 15 million tons, including 100,000 TEU of containers per year, ferry terminal - 6.2 million tons per year, service capacity for vessels of the Ro-Ro type – 60,000 wheeled vehicles, passenger capacity – 150,000 people, maximum loading capacity of served vessels – 7,000-10,000 tons, and maximum length of served vessels - 150-160 meters.
