Construction of Iran's Astara railway terminal to be completed next year

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 3

The construction of the Astara railway terminal in the Gilan Province (northern Iran) will be completed by the end of next Iranian year (March 21, 2022), Deputy Director of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, Morteza Jafari said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

He made the remark after getting acquainted with the Astara railway terminal.

The deputy director noted that currently, there is 60-percent progress in the construction of this railway terminal.

Jafari added that about 400,000 tons of goods have been exported, imported, and transited since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020). After completion of the construction of this terminal, it will be possible to be exported, imported, and transited 1 million tons of goods per year.

“The increasing the security opportunities of the part of the Astara railway line in Iran, installation of surveillance cameras, construction of a concrete wall and a railway line at the Astara terminal are being carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways,” he said.

The Astara-Astara railway line between Azerbaijan and Iran was put into operation in 2018. In Iran, the Astara railway terminal operates on an emergency basis.
