Transshipment of goods through Azerbaijani ports up since early 2021

Some 3.9 million tons of cargo were transported through the Azerbaijani ports from January through May 2021, which is 5.4 percent more than in the same period of last year, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

According to the State Statistics Committee, 3.77 million tons of international transit cargo or 96.4 percent of the total cargo volume, were transshipped through the ports, which is by 5.6 percent more than in the same period of 2020.

As of early June, 97,600 tons of cargo remained in the Azerbaijani ports.

The Baku International Sea Trade Port observed the highest rate during the last 28 years for the transshipment of containers and vehicles in 2019.

Some 8.8 million tons of cargo were transshipped through the Azerbaijani seaports last year, 8.2 million tons or 93.2 percent of which accounted for international transit cargo and 7.8 percent - for local cargo.
