Passenger and cargo transportation via all types of transport decreases in Azerbaijan

Some 77.2 million tons of cargo were transported by all types of transport in Azerbaijan from January through May 2021, which is by 4.9 percent less than in the same period of last year, Trend reports on June 17 citing the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report.

At the same time, 56.1 percent of all cargoes were transported via vehicles, 32.7 percent via pipeline, 7.9 percent via trains, 3.1 percent via ships and 0.2 percent via planes.

The cargo transportation in the private sector decreased by 5.9 percent. Some 77.2 percent of all cargo transportation accounted for this sector.

During the reporting period, 447 million passengers were transported by all types of transport in Azerbaijan, which is by 25.6 percent less than in the same period of 2020.

Most of the passengers (99.7 percent) were transported via vehicles, 0.1 percent - via metro and 0.2 percent - via other means of transport.

Some 6.1 million tons of cargo were transported via trains from January through May 2021 (increase of 1.7 percent on an annualized basis), as well as 876,800 passengers, which is by 27 percent less than a year earlier.

Almost 2.4 million tons of cargo were transported via ships from January through May 2021, which is by 5.2 percent less than in the same period of last year. The share of oil in the total transportation of goods amounted to 39.8 percent.

The volume of cargo handled in the Azerbaijani ports from January through May 2021 exceeded 3.9 million tons, 96.4 percent of which accounted for transit cargo (3.8 million tons).

Around 97,600 tons of cargo remained in the ports as of May 1, 2021.

Some 43.3 million tons of cargo were transported via vehicles from January through May 2021, which is by 8.3 percent less than in the same period of 2020.

Thus, 239,000 passengers were transported via planes from January through May 2021, which is by 45.9 percent less than in the same period of last year.

Cargo transportation via planes increased by 28.8 percent up to 182,500 tons from January through May 2021.
