Iran to attract foreign investment for Chabahar Port - expert

TEHRAN, Iran, Aug. 21

Trend:

An economic expert indicates that Iran requires attracting foreign investment for Chabahar Port development and the increase of export and importing volume from Chabahar.

Amir Hossein Arabpour has noted the volume of non-oil export and import from the Chabahahr Free Trade Zone was insignificant and 68,000 tons of commodities were exported from this port in 2016, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

The Iranian officials have predicted Chabahar export capacity would reach 33 million tons but the first phase of the prediction for export capacity of 6 million tons has not been implemented.

"India is stalling investments in Chabahar port therefore we should invite other investors such as Oman," said the economic expert.

Another important factor that has slowed down Chabahar's development was sanctions that created concerns for foreign investors and even pressured Indian investors and reduced their past of investment.

Iran could negotiate with China to attract their investment in Chabahar development and the new government can assign special authorities to Iran Free Zones Organization to form a team of negotiators in this regard.
