Azerbaijani ports increase cargo handling

Azerbaijani ports have handled nearly 8.1 million tons of cargo over the period from January through November 2021, which is 3.7 percent or 292,000 tons more than during the same period of 2020, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan told Trend.

The volume of handling of international cargo equaled 7.7 million tons, which is 95.7 percent of the overall cargo handled at the ports during the reporting period. This is also 5.5 percent or over 400,000 tons more than during the same period of 2020.

As of December 1, some 212,200 tons of cargo were docked in Azerbaijani ports.

For the most part, ports of Azerbaijan transship cargo on the routes Turkey - Central Asia - Turkey, the countries of the Black Sea and Europe - Central Asia, and also carry out the transit of Chinese goods.

The value of cargo handled through Azerbaijani ports last year amounted to 8.7 million tons, 8.1 million tons of which or 93.2 percent accounted for international transit, and only 7.8 percent accounted for cargo destined to arrive in Azerbaijan.
