Heydar Aliyev Int'l Airport in Baku sees its January all-time record number of passengers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 10. The Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku served 360,000 passengers in January 2023, which was the January all-time record, Trend reports.

Since the beginning of 2023, the passenger traffic of all international airports in the country has exceeded 420,000 people.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan's AZAL and Buta Airways air carriers transported 132,000 and 47,000 passengers, respectively. Furthermore, national airlines carried out 37 percent of international flights.

A total of 27 foreign air carriers made regular flights to Heydar Aliyev International Airport in the reporting month. Among them, Turkish Airlines, Aeroflot, UTair, Azimuth and flydubai carried the largest number of passengers.

In January 2023, the top 10 most popular international destinations from Baku included Istanbul, Moscow, Dubai, Tbilisi, Abu Dhabi, Ankara, Mineralnye Vody, Jeddah, Sharjah, and Tashkent. Overall, 221,000 people were served in the mentioned routes.

Heydar Aliyev International Airport (IATA: GYD) is the largest airport in Azerbaijan and the region for passenger and cargo traffic, takeoff and landing operations, terminal area and cargo complex capacity.

In June 2022, Heydar Aliyev International Airport for the fifth time in a row confirmed its status as the best airport in the CIS countries according to the Skytrax World Airport Awards. This airport award is a coveted quality accolade for the airport industry and a global benchmark of airport excellence.
