ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, November 13. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov called on the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member countries to create joint transport and logistics centers with the participation of state structures and private companies, Trend reports.
"It is obvious that our economic partnership will develop successfully and will actually become effective in the presence of modern transport and communication networks that include the entire space of the ECO," the head of Turkmenistan said.
Berdimuhamedov stressed the important role of the transport corridors of Eurasia in ensuring the prosperity of the continent and highlighted the key role of the ECO in this context, while adding that the construction of roads, bridges, terminals and other facilities is one of the main areas of cooperation.
ECO member states include Türkiye, Iran and Pakistan (founding members), Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan
One of the priorities, as the Turkmen president said, is establishment of multimodal cargo transportation from China to Europe through Central Asia using the ports of the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea.
The 16th ECO summit was held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on November 9 this year, at which issues of developing cooperation in the transport sector between the participating countries were actively discussed.
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is a regional intergovernmental organization that brings together Asian and Middle Eastern countries to promote economic cooperation, trade and investment development, and to strengthen political and cultural ties among members.
