BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. The Chabahar port, located in Iran’s southeast, saw a 10.7 percent increase in the number of ships with a capacity of over 1,000 tons docking there in the first ten months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared to the same period last year, said Ghasem Askari Nasab, director general of Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization’s branch in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Trend reports.

Askari Nasab said that 134 ships with a capacity of more than 1,000 tons docked at Chabahar port in 10 months.

He said that these ships mostly transported crude oil, gasoline, diesel, petrochemical products, essential products, cement, iron ore and other goods.

Iran’s Chabahar port, located in the southeast of the country, is a convenient gateway for Afghanistan and Central Asian countries to reach the Indian Ocean. The port has received nearly $1 billion of investment in recent years and can handle 8.5 million tons of cargo annually with its ability to host 100,000-tonnage ships.

Meanwhile, in the 9th month of the current Iranian year (November 22 through December 21, 2023), 337,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Chabahar port of Iran.
