BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 28. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports rose by 9 percent in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through February 19, 2024), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Trend reports.
Data from the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization shows that about 214 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in the specified period. Of that, around 141 million tons were loaded, and about 72.7 million were unloaded.
Over the course of eleven months, over 101 million tons of crude oil and related products, as well as around 113 million tons of non-oil products, were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports.
At the same time, nearly 2.42 million TEU containers were loaded and unloaded in the country’s ports, showing a 3 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The cargo was mainly loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in Abadan, Arvandkenar, Astara, Imam Khomeini, Amirabad, Anzali, Bushehr, Tiab, Jask, Chabahar, Charak, Chavibdeh, Khorramshahr, Dayyer, Shahid Bahonar, Shahid Rajaee, Shahid Haqqani, Fereidoonkenar, Qeshm, Genaveh, Bandar Lengeh, and Noshahr.
Reportedly, the annual capacity of Iranian ports is currently more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking a number of steps to increase the capacity of its ports to 500 million tons per year.
