BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 16. A representative of the authoritative Uzbek analytical center Development Strategy Farrukh Hakimov, commented in the press on the results of the visit of Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili to Tashkent and emphasized the need for the development of transport corridors between Asia and Europe, Trend reports.

He stressed that the development of an international multimodal route covering China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Europe, actually the expanded Middle Corridor, is capable of reducing the time of cargo transportation from Central Asia to Europe threefold.

"The establishment of this multimodal transport corridor will not only improve the commercial turnover of the nations concerned but also greatly increase the volume of transit freight traffic via their borders," Hakimov said.

He noted that during the Georgian-Uzbek negotiations last week in Tashkent, special attention was paid to the development of transport and logistics partnerships.

The sides also discussed the use of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars transport corridor (BTC), which is part of the Middle Corridor.

Additionally, the speaker of the Georgian parliament visited Central Asian countries last week and discussed the intensification of trade cooperation, which is impossible without the development of transport and logistics routes.
The Uzbek analytical center "Development Strategy" is a non-governmental non-profit organization established by the Institute for Monitoring Current Legislation under the President of Uzbekistan, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, the Academy of State Administration under the President of Uzbekistan, and the Institute for Monitoring Civil Society.

To note, the international route Middle Corridor has been developing since 2014 and has gained a special role in the last few years due to the global geopolitical realities associated with the transfer of cargo from traditional transit corridors, in particular, bypassing the Russian Federation, the Red Sea, and the Suez Canal.
