BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 24. Georgian ports and terminals handled 3.39 million tons of cargo in the first quarter of 2024, which is 8 percent less than the indicator of the corresponding period of last year, the statement of the National Statistics Service of Georgia said, Trend reports.
Out of this volume, 31.1 percent were liquid cargoes (different types of oil products), and 23.2 percent were dry cargoes.
"A total of 4,041 vessels entered the ports of Georgia from January through March 2024. Panama-flagged vessels accounted for 17.8 percent, Türkiye-flagged vessels for 16.6 percent, Liberia for 9.7 percent, Russia for 9.2 percent, and Malta 7.7 percent. Vessels flying the flags of other countries accounted for 39 percent," the statistics noted.
In the first quarter of 2024, Georgian ports served 1,800 passengers, which is 50.1 percent more than in the corresponding period of 2023. Meanwhile, the share of arriving passengers in the passenger flow exceeded the share of departing passengers and amounted to 55.6 percent.
