Azerbaijan, Baku, May 6 / Trend, S. Aliyev /

The Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Company (CASPAR) and the Croatian Uljanik Shipyard have signed a contract in Baku to build new ferries for Azerbaijan, spokesman Vugar Sadikhov said this week.

The delivery of both ships is expected by October 2012.
The vessels will meet international standards and international conventions in navigation.

The shipyard will manufacture ferries for Azerbaijan under the "2 +3" scheme.
One vessel's construction cost will be 22 million euro.

The Azerbaijani state budget will allocate funds to purchase the ferries.
The contract was signed by CASPAR Chief Aydin Bashirov and Uljanik Shipyard head Anton Brajkovich.

Bashirov said the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway transport corridor is expected to be commissioned in the near future, which will greatly increase the cargo flow on the EurasianTRACECA transport corridor. They will be ferries of a new and improved design. They will each hold up to 54 cars.

Cooperation between CASPAR and Uljanik has been continuing since 1984. All the shipping company's ferries have been built by Uljanik.
