Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev discussed issues of military cooperation with Defence Minister of Great Britain Philip Hammond, the press service of the president said on Monday.
"Our countries have close political and economic contacts. We noted the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Great Britain. Forthcoming visit of Prime Minister David Cameron in Kazakhstan is important to us. Cooperation in the sphere of defense is developing. Our military are trained on military program training in the UK," the press service of the president said.
Hammond said he was glad to discuss issues of strengthening and further development of military cooperation between Kazakhstan and Great Britain, as well as issues of regional security.
According to the press service, an important point in military cooperation between Kazakhstan and Great Britain is peacemaking. Evidence of this is an annual international exercise "Steppe Eagle". In addition, Kazakhstan has contributed to the process of normalizing the situation in Iraq as part of a multinational force, where engineers and an engineering unit of Kazakhstan's army were highly appreciated.
