The Spiritual Administration of Kazakhstan's Muslims will work on standardization and control of products labeled 'halal' (products permissible to use according to the Islamic law known as the shariah).

"The population's demand in the products of 'halal' standard is growing every day," a message from the Spiritual Administration of Kazakhstan's Muslims quoted the administration's chairman, supreme mufti of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan kazhy Malgazhyuly, as saying Nov. 25.

"But, unfortunately, some of these products do not meet the standards and norms of the shariah," the supreme mufti added.

He further said that therefore, the work on standardization and control passes to the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan.

The message said these issues were reviewed at a scientific conference on the standardization of 'halal' products, held at the Nur-Mubarak Egyptian University of Islamic Culture in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The conference was attended by scholars, imams and heads of Kazakh companies manufacturing 'halal' standard products.

"We opened a department for standardization of 'halal' products at the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan. Over 250 imams improved their knowledge in this area, and took refresher trainings at the Islamic institute," the supreme mufti said.
