BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 25. Kazakhstan's Kazpost, a national postal service, has suspended money transfers from the Russian Unistream system, a source at Kazpost told Trend.
"Since July 21, 2023, the acceptance and issuance of Unistream money transfers have been suspended in all branches of Kazpost JSC," said the postal service.
According to the company, the reason behind the suspension is the restrictions imposed and Unistream's inclusion in the sanctions lists.
On July 20, 2023, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury added a number of credit institutions from Russia to the sanctions list. In particular, the banks Tinkoff, Solidarity, Loco Bank, and St. Petersburg Social Commercial Bank appeared in the restrictive register.
Meanwhile, OFAC also announced that it would impose sanctions on any financial institution outside Russia using 'Mir', a card payment system for electronic fund transfers established by the Central Bank of Russia.
Nevertheless, Kazakhstan's Halyk Bank, CenterCredit Bank, Freedom Finance Bank, Bereke Bank, and VTB Bank continue to service the Russian 'Mir' (or World') card amid US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions related to Russia's banking sector.
