ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 2. Non-resident investments in Kazakhstan's government securities and National Bank notes have surged by 178 billion tenge ($400.5 million), reaching a total of 559 billion tenge ($1.2 billion) from January through July 2023, Trend reports.

The National Bank said this marks the highest value recorded since March 2022.

Non-resident presence in National Bank notes has grown by 6 billion tenge ($13.5 million), while their investments in government securities have seen an increase of 171 billion tenge ($384.8 million).

Investments in the bonds of the Ministry of Finance have grown to a historical maximum and currently amount to 453 billion tenge ($1.09 million).

The inflow of non-resident investments in government securities has had a positive impact on the market, contributing to the efficiency of the government securities market. The presence of a diverse range of investors, including foreign ones, has proven to be beneficial for Kazakhstan. Such an influx of foreign portfolio investments can lead to reduced borrowing costs and serve as an additional funding source.
