ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 4. Kazakhstan plans to renovate almost all railway stations in the country in two stages starting in 2024, Trend reports.

This was stated during a meeting between Transport Minister Marat Karabayev and authorized, interested organizations.

There are a total of 59 railway stations in the country. Their largest part is on the balance sheet of Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, a national company), except for the Almaty-1, Almaty-2, Pavlodar, Ekibastuz, Aksu, Turkestan, and Shymkent stations, which are under the jurisdiction of akimats (executive power).

According to him, it is proposed to divide the overhaul work into two stages: 2024–2025 and 2026–2027.

"At the same time, we are considering the option of carrying out the necessary comprehensive repairs. To do this, it is necessary to develop design and estimate documentation and approve them at an accelerated pace," he added.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan Railways has approved the program to increase the capacity of the railway infrastructure.

Today, the current state of the railway infrastructure and rolling stock is becoming a limiting factor for the stable functioning of the railway.

To ensure the rapidly growing volumes of cargo transportation, the KTZ is already implementing four large infrastructure projects.

Within three years, railway lines will be built in the sections Dostyk-Moyynty, Bakhty-Ayagoz, Darbaza-Maktaaral, and a bypass around Almaty with a total length of 1,334 km.

Measures are also being taken to develop single-track sections: Zhezkazgan-Zharyk, Kazaly-Arys, Almaty-Altynkol, Aksu-Zhana-Semey, Kandyagash-Tobol.
