ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 29. Kazakhstan intends to attract funds from international financial organizations in order to implement projects in road transport, said Transport Minister Marat Karabayev, Trend reports.
He made the remark during Global Gateway Investors Forum for EU-Central Asia Transport Connectivity held today in Brussels.
"Firstly, in the upcoming 5 years the main transit corridors 4,700 kilometers will be reconstructed or constructed. In addition to this, another 4,700 kilometers will be repaired. All these roads from the backbone of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. For these purposes, we plan to attract 20 billion euros of loans from international financial organizations, such as the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Asian Development Bank," the minister said.
As Marat Karabayev noted, for the implementation of projects, Kazakhstan proposed to attract funds within the Global Gateway initiative and invite European companies to become participants in the large projects for the construction of roads in the country.
Meanwhile, approximately 10,700 roadways of republican and local importance were repaired or built in Kazakhstan in 2023. According to the official data, 753 billion tenge (about $1.64 billion) are provided for these purposes, which is 14 percent more than last year.
Furthermore, today, 8 international highway corridors with a total length of about 13,000 km pass through the territory of Kazakhstan. Among them are Western Europe - Western China, North - South, TRACECA and others.
