Kazakhstan reveals volume of money transfers abroad in December 2023

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 2. About 215,300 transactions worth 72.8 billion tenge (about $161 million) were sent from Kazakhstan abroad through international money transfer systems in December 2023, Trend reports.

The data from the Central Bank of Kazakhstan shows that, compared to November 2023, the number of sent remittances decreased by 1.1 percent and the volume of transactions decreased by 10.8 percent.

In December, the largest number of transfers abroad were made through the Zolotaya Korona (191,250 transactions, or 58.1 billion tenge, or about $128 million), CONTACT (11,770 transactions, or 8.4 billion tenge, or about $18.6 million), Western Union (5,780 transactions, or 3.9 billion tenge, or about $8.7 million), Moneygram (1,910 transactions, or 1.7 billion tenge, or about $3.8 million), and others (4,560 transactions, or about $1.4 million).

In terms of the volume of money sent from Kazakhstan abroad, the leaders are: Russia: 23.6 billion tenge or about $52 million (share 32.4 percent); Türkiye - 17.2 billion tenge or about $38.1 million (share 23.6 percent); and Uzbekistan: 13.5 billion tenge or about $30 million (share 18.6 percent).

In addition, the main share of transfers through international systems was carried out in US dollars (share of the total number of transfers: 28.6 percent, share of the total volume of transfers: 57.3 percent) and in Kazakhstani tenge (55.8 percent and 31.4 percent, respectively).
