BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 17. Swiss international transport and logistics company AsstrA - Associated Traffic AG analyzes market interest in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM or Middle Corridor), AsstrA's director in Kazakhstan Ramilya Akhmetova told Trend.

"We are analyzing how much the market is interested in the Middle Corridor (TITR), with an eye on how the needs and supply capabilities are changing. The main thing is the demands of our customers. We see customers' interest in alternative routes, so despite technical and documentation challenges, we are actively working to improve service on this route and optimize processes. Since the route is still at the stage of formation, especially in terms of infrastructure, our specialists calculate possible risks in advance and try to find possible solutions to problems in advance, before they occur," she emphasized.

According to her, the statistics show that interest in this route is a marketing trend.

"Demand for freight transportation along the TITR has grown strongly in 2023. For example, the volume of freight traffic along the Middle Corridor in 2022 was 1.6 million tons, while in 2023, the figure rose to 2.75 million tons, an 86 percent increase compared to 2022," she added.

Meanwhile, the Middle Corridor connects the container rail freight transportation networks of China and the European Union countries via Central Asia, the Caucasus, Türkiye, and Eastern Europe.

The multilateral multimodal transportation infrastructure links the ferry terminals of the Caspian and Black Seas with the railway systems of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, Ukraine, and Poland.

The middle corridor contributes to increasing cargo traffic from China to Türkiye, as well as to European countries and in the opposite direction.

To note, route trains traveling along this corridor deliver cargo from China to Europe in an average of 20-25 days, and this is one of the main advantages of this transport corridor.
