ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 10. Kazakhstan's export volume of copper cathode amounted to 41,700 tons in January 2024, Trend reports.
According to the Directorate for Development of Mining and Metallurgical Complex and Chemistry QazIndustry, this is 42.9 percent more than in January 2023.
The growth in exports was achieved due to a doubling of demand in Türkiye (from 6,600 to 13,000 tons) and China - by 63.7 percent (from 16,300 to 26,700 tons).
The top countries importing Kazakh copper included China (63 percent), Türkiye (31 percent), and Latvia (4 percent).
Notably, the leading producers of copper cathodes in Kazakhstan are Kazakhmys Smelting (Zhezkazgan), Kazzinc (Ust-Kamenogorsk), and Kounrad Copper Company (Balkhash).
Meanwhile, KAZ Minerals Group produced 403,000 tons of copper in 2023, which is 6 percent more than in the previous year (2022: 380,000 tons). This figure is the highest in the entire history of the group.
