ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 18. Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of building an oil pipeline along the bottom of the Caspian Sea, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
"Kazakhstan will look into the potential of laying an oil pipeline along the Caspian Sea's bottom. In addition, in the medium future, the potential of building an oil pipeline from Atyrau to Kuryk is being considered," the Ministry said.
Notably, Kazakhstan now exports oil over the Caspian Sea using
tankers. From January through December 2023, the volume of Kazakh
oil transported for export from the port of Aktau totaled 3.376
million tons, up 1.108 million tons from the same period in
2022.
Thus, the increase in the volume of Kazakh oil transported for
export from the port of Aktau is due to a 5.5-fold increase in the
volume of raw materials shipped in the direction of the
Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, from 250,000 tons to 1.392
million tons, compared to the same period in 2022. Specifically,
the Tengiz field shipped 1.057 million tons of oil.
In addition, during the reporting period, 1.984 million tons of oil were carried from the port of Aktau to the port of Makhachkala.
