BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. The ceremony of signing an agreement between Tajikistan and the EU on the start of the process of allocating 29 million euros in the form of grants took place today in Uzbekistan's Samarkand, Trend reports via Tajik media outlets.

The agreement was signed between Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Daler Juma and Deputy Director-General for International Cooperation and Development Marjeta Jager.

Under the EU's assistance to Tajikistan, 15 million euros are intended to be directed to the development of the country's energy sector and 14 million euros - to provide drinking water to rural areas.

Daler Juma stressed that the funds will be used to improve the energy infrastructure and achieve the strategic goal of ensuring energy independence.

According to Juma, currently the Government of Tajikistan is implementing reforms in the energy sector and technical assistance is very much needed to further improve this process.

Meanwhile, on November 17, 2022, the EU has launched a new project - “Sustainable Energy Connectivity in Central Asia” (SECCA) at a round table dedicated to the EU-Central Asia Connectivity Conference “Global Gateway” in Samarkand, with a total budget of 6.8 million euros, which aims to promote a more sustainable energy balance in Central Asia in accordance with EU best practices.
