Tajikistan decreases trade turnover with EAEU-countries

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28. The trade turnover between Tajikistan and the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) decreased by $23.9 million or 9.9 percent year-on-year in January 2023 – from $242.8 million to $218.9 million, Trend reports with reference to the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).

The share of the EAEU countries in Tajikistan’s trade turnover remained high – 43.3 percent.

The exports from Tajikistan to the EAEU amounted to $46.8 million in January 2023, which is a decrease of 7.9 percent over the same month of 2022 ($50.8 million).

The Tajik imports from the EAEU made up $172.1 million, decreasing by 10.5 percent year-on-year ($192.1 million in January 2022).

Tajikistan’s trade turnover with the EAEU-countries amounted to $3.2 billion in 2022 which is an increase of 23.9 percent or $620 million compared to 2021, with Russia and Kazakhstan being the largest trade partners of Tajikistan among the EAEU-members.

The bank noted that despite Russia and Kazakhstan being the main trade partners of Tajikistan, economic relationship with China is developing faster, as is evident from the trade increasing by 44.2 percent in 2022, comparing to Russia (23.7 percent) and Kazakhstan (22.3 percent).
